John Kenneth Warrens
August 14, 1924 to August 3, 2007
Dr. Jack Warrens, D.M.D., F.A.C.D., 82, died peacefully at his home in
San Diego with family at his side. A memorial mass was held in Portland
on September 4th at 5 p.m. at St Thomas More Catholic Church, 3525 SW
Patton Road.
Born in Portland, Oregon, Jack was one of three children of Charles
Kenneth Warrens and Irene Collins Warrens. He graduated from Grant High
School and the University of Oregon Dental School. Private practice in
Portland was interrupted by recall to Navy duty at the Naval Training
Center in San Diego and Camp Pendleton Navy Hospital. He married
Virginia Roberson of San Diego in 1948, and after his release from the
Navy in 1954, the family moved to San Diego.
"Dr. Jack" practiced dentistry in Point Loma into his late seventies.
He was respected for his innovative prosthetics facilitating many
beautiful smiles. He was a researcher and pioneer for implant
dentistry. Jack was the co-founder of the San Diego Dental Seminar, a
founding member of the Board of Directors of Doctor's Hospital and the
Sharp Cabrillo Medical Center. He served as a past president of the
Pacific Coast Society for Prosthodontics.
Jack was an accomplished athlete, which began as a five-year old skiing
Mount Hood. Mammoth Mountain in the High Sierras was the family's
favorite winter wonderland. Later, he spent winters at Sunriver skiing
Mt Bachelor. His passion for skiing and a strong resiliency bouncing
back after injuries, had him rollerblading and biking the Mission Beach
Boardwalk between ski trips into his eighties. Jack was optimistic,
quick-witted, a warm, compassionate and generous man, whose smile could
light up a room, and whose heartfelt laughter was irresistible.
He is survived by his companion of fifteen years, Patty Stember, by his
devoted sister Mary Jo Vincent, brother Robert C. Warrens; his loving
children, Francie Baker, Susie Warrens, John Warrens, Jr., and Thomas
Warrens; and by his six grandchildren. Jack was preceded in death by
his wife Virginia and by his second wife Constance. He became loving
stepfather to Connie's two adult children, Michael Foley and Colleen
Jantz, and their three grandchildren. His extended Portland family
included Patty’s seven children and twelve grandchildren. Remembrances
may be made to his devoted private caregivers at Angels Touch Assisted
