Pushing the Limits: Type III Bonded Restorations on Teeth and Implants. Pushing the Limits.

Time: 8:00 AM, June 21, 2025
Speaker: Pascal Magne

Synopsis:

Adhesive dentistry did not only change the way we restore natural teeth but is also shaping the future of implant-supported restorations. Original indications for porcelain veneers bonded to teeth have evolved from fingernail-type restorations (Type I and II) to much more extensive ones such as Type III (fractured and severely worn-down/bio-corroded dentitions), Type IV (dentin-bonded crowns) and Type V (endocrowns). This evolution has also impacted the way we consider restoring dental implants with novel-design CAD/CAM assemblies. Dental materials, especially milled high performance polymers (HPP) also deserve our attention because of their more flexible behavior compared to ceramics. The damping behavior of our restorations will be discussed because we cannot longer assume that stronger and stiffer is always better.

Learning Objectives:

  • Golden standards for adhesion to the tooth and to biomaterials.
  • Evolution of restorative design on teeth and long-term follow-ups
  • How adhesive dentistry can influence implant restorative design and biomaterials
  • Damping behavior of dental restorations
